REBECCA MONTGOMERY

Illustrator & Ceramic Artists

I have created art for as long as I can remember, born and currently residing in Lions Bay, British Columbia. I completed my BFA in Visual Art and Art History from the University of British Columbia, for one year of which I studied at the College of Fine Arts in Sydney, Australia.

After graduating I became a dedicated yogi, completing my yoga teacher training in Rishikesh, India. Here I discovered how a dedicated somatic and meditation practice complemented and supported an abundance of artistic expression.

For most of my life I have been a painter and drawer, working as a printmaker and illustrator. In 2022, I began studying psychology and neuroscience at UBC and working with art therapists. I decided to apply what I was learning to art, and I started ceramics. Working with a tactile, 3D medium allows for a visceral way to address chronic pain. Embodying releases from pain, art became a modality for healing and connection.

I connect with art therapists and art healers in a regular interview column with the Canadian Art Therapy Association’s e-magazine, “Envisage”. Learning about the different ways people are using art towards their healing is very inspiring to me and my work.
